Save My Place | Load My Place

Author Notes:

There's so much going on in these two pages, okay. You've got not-Ralph-Macchio inviting Lea to dance. You've got Extreme Throwback 80s Faustus tending bar. Who knew that we all needed Miami Vice Devers in our lives, I sure didn't. And finally, the one, the only...

Bob Johnson

no, wait.

...Kai? What are you doing there?!
Jokes aside, I really like the bar scene. Light and colors are just perfect.

Holy guacamole!! They do look alike, don't they? Separated at birth. O_o

Thanks! :D

Yes... To be honest, he's such a trope... But I did it on purpose. XD

Whatever happened to the 80s? Well, apparently, they escaped into space! :-D

Though it seems at least their text-based telecommunication tech is more modern than pagers!

Yes! I wanted the ship to have some serious 80s vibes, even though it's set some time in the future. So there is a bit of a clash between the fashion and the tech. :D

I love that antler background in throwback 80s Faustus LOL. You are a genius, roux!!

And a master of color! Beautiful pages as always!!!

This comic has such a great aesthetic, it’s like, 80s but not completely, idk, it’s hard to describe the comic as a whole ;)

Thanks so much!! That's honestly exactly what I'm going for; 80s but with a bit of a twist. :D

You know what? I'd totally consider going clubbing if light up hula hoops were a club thing. Someone make it a thing.

Man, I still don't think you could get me into a club, even with that. Maybe there's a way to incorporate them into laser tag??

I want to be the girl in the leotard with 5 hoops going at once, but I think I'm actually the short-haired girl at the table who looks like she's laughing at someone.

I mean, Mack clearly works out. (I almost said ‘or maybe he runs’. Open mouth, insert foot. Although in the (thankfully very short) times I’ve spent on crutches, you can totally ... runish? Crutch around the neighborhood as quickly as possible?)

But enough digression, let’s partaaay!

Yeah, I think he gets around pretty fast when he has a mind to! Sometimes I watch Josh Sundquist's standup to get a feel for a pose, and he moves like lightning.

Two for one techno drinks, cool!

The rave party!! Glowstick antler faustus?? LEGWARMERS. Trying to read Mack's shirt, Southern Sun e... something. engineering? These pages are fantastic, I'm loving all these details.

It is engineering! You'll get a better view in the next few pages. Thank you thank you I was so excited about these pages!!

I LOVE that you've kept some of the original 80's feel in the comic, even though nowadays we can't imagine futuristic things being that way.

Also, a technical question...when you color in these dark scenes, do you pick the color of their skin for the tone of the scene (darker green) or do you color them and use a filter/layer to change the tone?

Ooh hey just saw this! Thanks!

I color them all their own colors and then lay different filters over them. It gives me more freedom to change my mind about shading. :D

Nobody mentioned it until now... well, Taily dropped a little hint...

This page strikes me as hilariously weird! And the next one even more but it starts here: Everybody has a (remotely) humanoid body except Kalgan. This impression is amplified by Kalgan wearing clothes like the others. Idk... I'm having difficulties to wrap my brain around it...

Yeah, there's kind of an odd mix especially on this page. It tends to be if someone is strong they have joints (Ryder, Mack's non-injured limbs, gym-goers) and weaker people don't (Kalgan, Lea, Devers) but on this page I had to give Lea and Devers joints because they're leaning on the bar. Background people kind of have a mix but pretty much nobody is as skinny as Kalgan. I promise it's just to make him unique, he's not an alien. XD

> he's not an alien

My that's a relief, because that was really one of the possibilities I thought about. XD

(Up until this page it didn't matter much, as in, Kalgan is a bit more skinny than most others, so what... But now he is not only the single exception, he also wears clothes much like everybody else which would fit a person whose limbs have 3 times the diameter of Kalgan's limbs.)
